Vista Del Malpais is not as wellknown as Fonts Point, but it should allow to have even more spectacular views from there on the badlands. At 11S 57574X 368126X we left Short Wash to the left and went up to Vista Del Malpais. The following picture shows the trail up to Vista Del Malpais. From here one can have spectacular views.

The tour had four stops including a mud cave, Vista del Malpais and the infamous Font's Point where we saw the badlands in all its glory. After the tour it was time for dinner. We dined at Red Ocotillo which is a farm to table restaurant. At the entrance you can see their garden to the left where many of their ingredients are grown.

Vista del Malpais Vista del Malpais is a popular point for viewing the Borrego Badlands. Getting to Vista del Malpais. [4WD recommended.] County Road S-22 east of Borrego Springs. At Call Box S22-319, turn south on the unpaved Thimble Trail and follow it to its terminus at Short Wash.

Vista del Malpais is like a timid younger sister, beautiful for those who appreciate its quietness. The view is not as impressive as Fonts Point, however, you get 360 views of the surrounding badlands. You can also hike down to the wash below if you know which way to go. (Note: OHVs are NOT allowed in Anza Borrego Desert State Park.

Vista del Malpais is a nice badlands overlook. This hike goes down into the badlands below, follows a couple of washes and loops back. Follow the ridge East and go down on a ridge until you reach the wash below. The wash is a fork of the Fault Wash. We loop back in a rather small wash, end up in a larger wash and hike towards the wall.
