The campground is open all year however, the prime season is October through April. Summer tempratures are extreme and tend to drive most campers out of the area.

The 10 sites at the campground are open from October 1 through May 31. Reservations can be made from October 1 to April 30, otherwise the sites are first come, first served. Fee: $35 per night

The Coyote Canyon Horse Trail from the Vern Whitaker Horse Camp is a great place to start. Or, try the California Riding Trail or the PCT. To reach the trailhead from San Diego, head east on US8 to SR67. Head north on SR67 through Ramona to Santa Ysabel. Turn left on SR79 for 10 miles. Turn righ ton Highway S-2 for 5 mles.
