Simon Cars Standard Twelve Flying

The first three Flying Standards, unveiled at the 1935 Olympia Show, were the four cylinder, 44 bhp 1.6 litre (1608cc) Twelve (model designation A12S), and a choice of six cylinder models between the 56 bhp 2.1 litre (2143cc) Sixteen (A16S) and the 64 bhp 2.7 litre (2664cc) Twenty (A20S).

Standard Flying Twelve The first 'Flying Standards' were announced at the 1935 London Motor Show after the launch of the rest of the 1936 Standard models. The Flying Twelve, Flying Sixteen and Flying Twenty, shared the main body but different length bonnets were fitted for different length chassis.

STANDARD FLYING TWELVE (1936-40) Saloon, saloon de luxe, drophead coupé. The Light model had a lighter waisted frame and pressed steel wheels, otherwise the styling was much as before. '38 saw the dhc, while new for '39 were ifs and the Super 12 model, complete with windtone horns and fog lamps.

Built towards the end of 1938, this unique Flying 12 Super is believed by the Standard Motor Club to be the sole survivor of six cars made which featured an experimental body on a 1938 chassis to appraise it for full-scale production which was planned for the following year.
