The Piazzale Castel San Pietro is a medieval fortress set high on a hilltop above the city. The architecture is quite remarkable, being one of the largest historic buildings in Verona, but the views from the surrounding terrace are the main reason to make the calorie-burning climb.

The Piazzale Castel San Pietro sits at the top of a long, steep stairway with sweeping views over the entire city of Verona. My wife and I elected to skip the climb up and take a cab to the top in the early evening. The views are truly magnificent and not to be missed. The walk down is beautiful, past old homes, a restaurant and ancient ruins.
