The 13th Hussars. The 13th Light Dragoons had a set of drum banners in the 1850s and photographic evidence of them shows a set on a blue field with a design similar to the later version as Hussars on a white fleld. The set of banners carried before 1900 first appeared when the regiment returned from South Africa in 1885.

History. Mess uniforms first appeared in the British Army in about 1845, initially utilizing the short shell jacket worn since 1831. This working jacket was worn open over a regimental waistcoat for evening dress. The original purpose was to provide a relatively comfortable and inexpensive alternative to the stiff and elaborate full-dress uniforms then worn by officers for evening social.

Origins. This regiment was formed as the 15th/19th Hussars in April 1922 by merging the 15th The King's Hussars with the 19th Royal Hussars. The regiment was formed in December 1992 by merging The Royal Hussars (Prince of Wales's Own) and the 14th/20th King's Hussars. These were successors to cavalry regiments with long and distinguished histories - the 10th, 11th, 14th and 20th Hussars - each of which is now represented by a single squadron in the King's Royal Hussars.

In 1992, the regiment was amalgamated with the 14th/20th King's Hussars to form The King's Royal Hussars. Crossed Kukris. The Crossed Kukris are worn by all ranks on the upper part of both sleeves on Blue Patrols, Service Dress and Mess Dress. The 14th/20th King 's Hussars were originally granted the unique honour of wearing Crossed Kukris b y the 43rd Gurkha Lorried Infantry Brigade as a result of the Italian Campaign, which included the Battle of Medicina in April 1945.
