Via Ferrata Loen Norway Fjord Views & Bucket List Adventure
A memory to last a lifetime! In August 2019, we packed the family, (two adults and two children aged 11 and 13), into a camper van, heading for Loen, the little town at the heart of the Nordfjord in the municipality of Stryn. Loen is about a 10 minute drive from Stryn, 2.5 hours from Ålesund, 4.5 hours from Bergen and 6 hours from Oslo.
The popular climbing route Via Ferrata Loen, with Europe's longest Via Ferrata bridge - Gjølmunnebrua - also ends on Hoven. It's a spectacular experience you'll never forget! You climb high above the fjord, surrounded by mountains and the Jostedalsbreen National Park, while securely fastened to a safety wire. The view is unforgettable.

We took the Via Ferrata Loen route but there's also a black route which you can arrange to do if you're an experienced climber. Our route included a whole lot of vertical climbing, the Gjølmunne suspension bridge (longest via ferrata bridge in Europe, 120 m long), Gjølmunne wirebridge (36m long) and a snowy finish.

You can climb Loen Via Ferrata with a guide through Loen Active, or, if you are experienced with these types of routes, you can also do it by yourself. If you don't have the equipment, you can rent it from Loen Active for 450 NOK.
