#1 Been reading up a lot lately on vintage gillette's. Seems the general consensus is that a Rocket is better made than a Superspeed and shaves better. What are the opinions of the good people of this parish? Is this true? Uncle Bertie Messages 2,505 Sunday April 17, 2016 #2 We try to keep away from religious arguments on here. Uncle Bertie

#1 Legato Can anyone shed any light on the differences between the Gillette English-made Rocket and the '40s style Gillette Super Speed? Other than the country of manufacture (and the current price premium for Rockets), I find it difficult to distinguish between the two razors. Feb 7, 2007 #2 BD1970

II is the Rocket for "normal beards", and has an unpainted flare tip. I is for "light beards" and came on the Blue Tip. III is for "heavy beards" and came on the Red Tip. Rocket HD, #58, and Aristocrat #66 all came with the II head. Since you're handy enough to re-crimp the head, you can easily make it more aggressive, say like a Red Tip.

I'm getting pretty used to using my Schick Krona and Gillette Adjustable. I now have a Gillette Super Speed razor on my want list. I like the vintage Gillette razors.. but the British made Gillette rockets are just fantastic. They look almost identical to the super speeds, but they are of a higher quality IMHO. How is the gillette superspeed vs the tech? Which one is better for a beginner? I've heard that the superspeed has too big of a head to get areas under your nose and stuff like that while the tech has a small head. I like the idea of silo doors though, seems pretty convenient to me compared to the tech.

The English Rockets are: (1) heavier, (2) more aggressive (because of the weight), (3) more solid (try wiggling the flare tip.it won't budge.unlike the USA model), (4) more comfortable (the handle groove is wide and the finger rests inside making the razor. (5) more controllable. And it's a more rare razor in the USA. (I like to talk to myself in an English accent as I shave.

Gillette Super Speed Flare Tip Better Every Shave

Pros and Cons of the Super Speed: First off, the pros: this razor is gorgeous. Granted, each of them has a different look, but the majority of them look like your typical DE safety razor - the chrome handle, the rounded adjustable razor head, and the flared bottom to make it stand upright. Still, the divine heaviness and gridlike texture of.

1. The Aristocrat. I have oodles of these. I have one brand new in the box I will never shave with and some beat to hell. I have replated a few and frankly, I've used a ton of safety razors (no wolfman yet) this provides me probably the best shave I have gotten out of any safety razor I own.

The Gillette Super Speed is probably the most famous of the vintage razors, it has an amazing classic look, it gives and really close yet comfortable shave that feels like you've had a barber shave your face. Best of all? It really takes you back to that classier old-fashioned time when people actually wet shaved.

That said, I think there are two models of vintage DE razors that deserve at least a little love from me for the beginner: the Gillette SuperSpeed's manufactured from the late 1940's through the mid 1950's, and the Shick Krona. Late 40's - Mid 50's Gillette SuperSpeed

#1 Space_Cadet I don't have a funny description. I was just wondering, how do these two compare in aggressiveness and otherwise. Thanks. Nov 27, 2014 #2 BRITD Using the adjustable Fatboy as the measure stick with adjustments 1 thru 9 , a 40's super speed I rate a 4, a british rocket a 4 and a rocket HD a 6. Nov 28, 2014 #3 Copierguy

American vs English Gillette Red Tip Super Speed Badger & Blade

Some of the newer models of that razor such as the Red Tip ('55-'57 if memory serves) or the adjustable Fat Boy ('56-'60, again, from memory) are preferred in some circles because they are more aggressive than the earlier Super Speeds. I don't think you're missing out on anything with one except the cost of a new razor.

Difference between Gillette '52 Superspeed and HD500 Rocket?? Tim Spencer Well-Known Member Hey all, I am considering maybe buying a used HD500 Rocket, but the head looks identical to my current '52 Superspeed. I'm wondering if there is a difference, ie, blade curve/angle or other such minor shaving difference. Is it an aggressive razor?
