The sims 2 is renowned for becoming corrupt over time but that link above covers every single mod you need to avoid stuff like that happening. Even if you've never noticed corruption as such in your games, it can help with loading when your neighbourhoods get bigger bc there are mods to clean out the crap that the game generates over time.

Two really worth checking out: midgethetree (has so many I don't know where to start!) and greatcheesecakepersona (Clean UI, one of the biggest mod releases for TS2 in recent times). Also highly recommend Cyjon's TS2 mods, which add some extra functionality or fixes buggy default Sims 2 behaviour.
