This is very intense, with lots of deep sherry notes, spices and dark cocoa, but certainly not unbalanced. For me it looses a few points towards the finish, as it becomes very dry and a tad bitter. As part of the "Vintage Collection" released in 2015 it was also a way to dump together unused vintage-dated stocks and get away with classic NAS pricing (that is, more money for younger - on average - whisky).

Palate: Quite dry, with a big hit of vanilla, some dried fruit (dates and raisins), a little nuttiness and a rich caramel. Finish: A slightly thin note creeps in, but the palate is left with a dry, slightly spicy oak, alongside the dried fruit. Comment: Well rounded and nicely balanced, despite a slight off note at the beginning. Score: 8.1. 8.6.

The Sherry Cask Reserve is a fun whisky, much like a summertime fling. The sherry influence is decidedly prominent to me, much more than other "sherry bombs" like Abelour A'bunadh. A lower strength means there's no burn and doesn't fall off anywhere into the ditches.
