The Dodge Diplomat was restyled for 1980 (M-body), and the police package version arrived in 1981. In 1982 Plymouth started selling the Gran Fury which was basically a rebadged Dodge Diplomat, and was also available as a police package. The only significant difference between the Gran Fury and Diplomat (other than nameplates) was the grille color.
