A great civic guard piece by the Dutch painter Jan Albertsz. Rotius (1624-1666). Rotius made 6 large portraits of the civic guard of Hoorn - propably because Rotius himself was an active member of the civic guard of Hoorn (he has depicted himself on this painting). The names of depicted men are known but not everybody has been identified.

Jan Albertsz. Rotius (Medemblik, 1624 - Hoorn, 1666) was een Noord-Nederlandse schilder die gespecialiseerd was in portretkunst. Hij was voornamelijk in West-Friesland werkzaam. Rotius is vooral bekend om de schutterstukken die hij schilderde voor de Nieuwe en Oude Doelen te Hoorn en die zich tegenwoordig bevinden in het Westfries Museum aldaar.
