The feed point of a long-wire antenna is nothing more than a broadband impedance transformer. In the case of a 1:9 UnUn, the power line (coax) impedance of 50 ohm will be transformed up to an impedance of 450 Ohm. After all 50 x 9 = 450.

A 9:1 unun is a transformer that reduces the impedance at the input by a factor of 9. So, if you connect a length of wire that presents an impedance of about 450 Ω to the input, you'll get an impedance of about 50 Ω on the output. In fact, the 9:1 unun that I built is actually an autotransformer.

I'm using a Nelson Antennas 9:1 balun end-fed 71 foot wire, about 4 metres above ground from a difficult urban back yard.. The wire is 84.5 foot long, in an inverted L configuration. I put it up 8 days ago, and have worked 38 countries on 5 of 6 continents. Still lacking oceania, but not bad for a week! Best DX being Mongolia to the East.

These are sometimes known as a Magnetic Longwire Balun. Its really an impedance transformer (9:1) to feed a high impedance, end fed (unbalanced) random wire which is likely to be a few hundred ohms, and transform it into something closer to a 50Ω (unbalanced) coaxial input, hence UnUn.
