The Arbiana day tour from Zadar to Sakarun (cost 320 kn in August) is worth doing if you don't want the hassle of trying to figure out how to get to the beach. The boat from Zadar takes 2 hours (is a reasonably pleasant ride) and the bus shuttles you directly to the beach (about a 5 min bus drive). When I visited, I was on the beach by 11.30am.
