What's great about this viewpoint is that most tourists can't be bothered walking 1.2km from the parking lot to the balcony so you have.

When it comes to sunrise, we recommend Miradouro do Juncal. A spot to admire the sunset is Miradouro do Ninho da Manta. If you decide to hike the whole trail (to Pico Ruivo), there is another nice view there called the "Stairway to Heaven". It's located five minutes from Ninho da Manta.

After a short stop at Miradouro do Ninho da Manta, it is time to head in the direction of Miradouro Pedra Rija, where you will find the incredible Stairway to Heaven. On a cloudy day, this section of the hike is incredibly moody and dramatic, which is why it has become my absolute favourite part of the PR1 hike from Pico Do Arieiro to Pico Ruivo.
