Built by the Knights over the ruins of a castle dating back to Norman times, Fort St. Angelo lies at the tip of Birgu (Vittoriosa), one of the Three Cities. The fort provided safety to the harbour and also to the inhabitants of the area who used it as a refuge during frequent raids.
