The ruins are accessed by a muddy path between farmers fields but you cannot access the castle itself which is fenced off due to risk of collapse. We stayed at the Duntulm Castle Hotel where they had a friendly bar frequented by interesting locals every evening. But the best part was walking up to the castle, sitting in that "window," and watching the sun set over the Atlantic. We were usually accompanied by the hotel's terrier.
