Dunbrody Abbey and Visitor Centre in County Wexford are built on the site of one of the most impressive ruined Cistercians abbeys in Ireland. It was founded by Herve de Montmorency in 1170 on the instructions of his nephew Richard de Clare (also known as Strongbow), after the Norman invasion of Ireland.

Within the Abbey Visitor's Centre is Dunbrody Castle which houses a craft shop, a museum and a large dolls' house built to a scale of the castle. Families will enjoy the full-size maze containing 1500 Yew trees, plus a Pitch and Putt course. Tea rooms with home-baked produce. Also local art displays. Opening Times: 1st May to 30th September

Dunbrody was a Cistercian Abbey founded in 1170 and completed in the early thirteenth century and a fifteenth century tower added. It was dissolved under the rule of Henry VIII. Next to the Abbey is Dunbrody Castle and Visitors Centre with a craft shop and small museum. In the grounds is a maze made with 1,500 yew trees.

Met up with friends in Dunbrody Visitor Centre for lunch. Weather not bad for January so we enjoyed the views over the River Barrow and watching the visitors who visited the Dunbrody Ship ( tour is great!) . The ship is moored right beside the visitor centre. Our lunch was excellent- casual seating, relaxed attmosphere and very pleasant local.
