The Amalfi Coast and the Cinque Terre may be the most well-known spots in Italy for walking trails with incredible views of the Mediterranean coastline; but here's an equally spectacular, more off-the-beaten track suggestion: spend a few days in the fishing village of Camogli (photo below), just 30 minutes south of Genoa and about an hour up fro.

San Rocco is a splendid hamlet of Camogli, reachable by car via a detour from the Aurelia just before the tunnel which begins the descent towards Rapallo. San Rocco is perhaps one of the most beautiful villages we know of. There are 3-4 taverns, a view needless to say magnificent, and the beginning of many paths that lead into the Portofino.
Travels in Europe Camogli and San Rocco
Look for the "Via San Rocco" trail marker on Google Maps to find the start of the trail. The trailhead is only 500 metres (a 6-minute walk) from Camogli San Fruttuoso train station. The trail marker is two red dots and a red ring—at San Rocco, those two trails will divide for alternative routes to San Fruttuoso. We walked for 30 minutes.

Camogli to San Rocco Church and Village. Follow the signs to San Rocco, a little village with a church of the same name up the hill from Camogli. The route initially follows along the little rocky stream, then crosses a small bridge and continues upwards. It's a cute, cobbled path through olive groves with nice views over the countryside.

Hiking between San Rocco and San Fruttuoso was a beautiful and lush trail. The ferry one-way costs €8, however, it is only €14 for a roundtrip ticket, so slightly cheaper if you plan to visit San Fruttuoso that way. The ferry terminal in Camogli is located here. Visit the day before your hike to learn about the timetables.
