Historic Detroit Albert Kahn (March 21, 1869 - Dec. 8, 1942) Born into a poor German family that later immigrated to Detroit when he was 11 years old. He had to work odd jobs to support his family, which meant he could not continue playing piano by the age of 7, at which he was considered a prodigy.

Albert Kahn was hired by the Packard Motor Car Company of Detroit in 1903 to design new factory buildings. Kahn's initial building designs followed standard mill factory construction. In 1905 he designed Packard Plant Building #10 using reinforced concrete and the Kahn Bar System.
