The Château de Foix ( Languedocien: Castèl de Fois) is a castle which dominates the town of Foix in the French département of Ariège. An important tourist site, it is known as a centre of the Cathars. It has been listed since 1840 as a monument historique by the French Ministry of Culture. Go to the end of the road where you will find a gravel car park, loos, maps and a picnic area. A track leads up to the Cirque which, for an average walker, is only 45 minutes away. One does have to cross a couple of shallow streams. Mind out for roots and rocks but it is a mountain track.
