The UP Class 4000, 4-8-8-4 articulated BigBoy was the answer. Alco Locomotive Works was commissioned to build the engine. Starting in 1941, 20 engines were built: #4000 to #4019, then again in 1944, 5 more were delivered #4020 to #4024. At 6PM on September the 5th, 1941, the first BigBoy, #4000, strode through the east end of the UP's Omaha yard.

Union Pacific 4014 is a steam locomotive owned and operated by the Union Pacific (UP) as part of its heritage fleet. It is a four-cylinder simple articulated 4-8-8-4 "Big Boy" type built in 1941 by the American Locomotive Company (ALCO) at its Schenectady Locomotive Works. It was assigned to haul heavy freight trains in the Wasatch mountain range.

Union Pacific employed Hancock Inspirator Company's whistles on many of its locomotives, including all 4-8-4's, 4-6-6-4's, and 4-8-8-4's. #4014 was fitted with the Hancock Long-Bell 3-Chime.
