Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Tischbein, known as the Goethe Tischbein (15 February 1751 in Haina - 26 Juny 1829 in Eutin ), was a German painter from the Tischbein family of artists. [1] Biography Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Tischbein was born on 15 February 1751 in Haina. His father was Johann Conrad, a carpenter. [2]

Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Tischbein1751-1829 German artist known as "Goethe" because of his celebrated portrait Goethe in the Campagna (1787). Tischbein began his career as a portrait painter but was equally well known for his engravings of classical antiquities. He studied art in Paris and then in Italy, where he was named Director of the Naples Academy of Art (1789).
