About Betty. Gerhard Richter's work, titled Betty - Gerhard Richter - 1988 is characterized by incredible diversity. He has created pieces ranging from bright and colorful abstractions to near photo realism pieces. His works also incorporate elements of conceptual art, with his influences mainly from Warhol and Picasso.

Betty is a portrait of sorts, painted from a photograph of the artist's daughter posed, like Ingres' The Bather at Valpinçon, 1808, so that she is looking away from the viewer. It is oil on canvas, about life size, and so far as I know it's Richter's only color painting of a figure. It was made in 1988; I saw it in London a few years.

'Betty' is one of the best-known subjects in Gerhard Richter's oeuvre. The portrait of his daughter is not directed towards the viewer, for she has turned round to gaze at the background, where one of Richter's grey paintings of the 1970s seems to be on display.
