I cut up some shimmery gauze-type material in strips and attached those to the inside of the umbrella. I used about one yard each of purple, pink, and violet material. I sewed a basting stitch down the center of each strip, which provided nice ruffly ridges. I used some ED light strings interspersed with the fabric strips to add a little more.
